The animation series, Maria-sama Ga Miteru is based upon an ongoing series of novels, that continues to captivate fans of wide range of generations such as high school, junior high school and college female students, and 20s~40s males since its debut in 1998.
The scene of "Maria-sama Ga Miteru", also referred to as "Maria watches over us" is a prestigious high school called The Lillian Girls Academy, where well-bred young ladies gather.
In order to pass on the school’s pure and clean traditions to newer students, the school has an anything-but-ordinary system called "soeur (means "sisters" in French) system", by which each student picks her own "little sister" from the younger generation and becomes her mentor as "big sister."
This is a school drama unfolded by a bunch of cute girls under the statue of Virgin Mary of the school watching over.
The secret of this title’s charm may come from sweet and romantic feeling the viewers can experience as they take a glimpse of this virtual school life through the eyes of the heroin, Yumi.
